FAQ
Questions to ask yourself when choosing a campground
· Will you have to go through Sturgis when coming back to your campground? This can add an hour or more of stop and go traffic to your day.
· Do you want to party all of the time? Sturgis is 24 hours of shows, contests, loud music, bars, and bikes coming and going with heavy traffic.
· Do you want to relax when you come back to your campground? Campgrounds that do not have a Sturgis address are quieter. You will get more sleep at night and actually save time during the day.
· Do the campsites have shade and is the campground on a river, lake, or have a pool on site to cool off in? August in South Dakota can be100' during the day.
· Does your campground have enough showers with plenty of hot water, sinks & mirrors, and indoor toilets? There's nothing like a nice clean wash house.
· Does your campground serve coffee and a hot breakfast in the morning or supper at night? Ah, coffee first thing in the morning and someone else doing the cooking.
· Are gas stations, grocery stores, banks, restaurants, and atm’s available within a couple of miles of your campground? We're all used to lots of things and it's nice to have stores only a couple minutes away.
· Are there concerts at your campground? Live music is loud and can last well into the night. This creates a party atmosphere which can continue for hours after the band quits playing.
· Does your campground sell alcohol? Many campgrounds do because of the profit involved, but this dramatically changes the atmosphere.
· Is your campground family owned and operated? Owner/operators typically take more care when interacting with their customers and friendships develop as a result. This creates more of a family atmosphere.
· Do you want to pay for 10 days when you are only staying 3 or 4? Many campgrounds require all of their guests to pay for 10 or 15 days, even if they are only staying for part of that time. This is more expensive and actually affects the general attitude at the campground.
